Why should I audition?
The Yale Glee Club is Yale’s principal undergraduate mixed chorus and oldest musical organization, currently in our 157th year.
Originally a group of 13 men from the class of 1863, today we are an 80-voice choir of women and men. Throughout our history, the Glee Club has not only been a place for great music, but for friendships which last a lifetime.
Directed by School of Music professor Jeffrey Douma, the Glee Club’s diverse repertoire includes everything from Renaissance motets to major choral orchestral works, and from world music to traditional Yale songs, and we premiere new works by leading and emerging composers each season. We’ve sung for audiences on six continents and tour every year.
Join generations of Yale students who have found their musical home at Yale in the Glee Club!

When do auditions take place?
The Yale Glee Club will hold auditions this year from Thursday, Aug. 31 to Saturday, Sep. 2. Callback auditions will take place during the afternoon on Sunday, Sep. 3 between 3:00 and 5:00pm, so please keep this time available in case callbacks are needed for your section.
For details, or to find out more about who we are and what we do, please come to our Introductory Meeting in Hendrie Hall Room 201, Wednesday, Aug. 30, 5:30pm. The introductory meeting will tell you more about the Glee Club and our plans for the coming year, and will give you a chance to meet returning members of the ensemble. There is also an informal cookout immediately following which you’re invited and encouraged to attend.
Come to our offices in Hendrie Hall Room 201, where a Glee Club officer will greet you. Please plan to arrive about 5 minutes early so you have time to complete a short information card. During the audition, you’ll be asked to do some vocal warm-ups, ear-training exercises, sight-reading, and to sing a piece of your own choosing (this does not have to be memorized and can be a cappella). Art songs, arias, folk songs, hymns, and musical theater selections are all good choices.
All students will be notified about the results of auditions by the end of the day on Sunday, Sep. 3. Our first rehearsal is Monday night at 7pm!
What we expect of members
Our main requirement is full participation in rehearsals and performances. Rehearsals are held Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 9:00PM, and we have 4 to 5 concerts each semester, in addition to our annual tours.
